Interesting stuff from the internet… (or, in other words, I don’t have time for a proper post so here are a bunch of links to other proper posts)

Women who quit smoking by 40 can live an extra decade – Telegraph (Some good news for those of us who quit “early”, but I hope young women don’t think it’s okay to start smoking with the idea they can simply quit before it’s “too late,” – which I think I thought in some vague way at the time —  because there’s nothing simple about quitting… quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do and it was a miserable experience… but not as miserable as smoking related health problems and an early death…)

Higher Stroke Risk In Women Linked With Soft Drinks (Another women’s health item… I was a bit dismayed at the finding that “women with the highest soft drink consumption had 21% more chance of suffering any type of stroke and 83% more chance to suffer from an ischemic stroke, when compared against those who had the lowest consumption…” The reason for the link isn’t really known, so of course it could be related to other factors aside from the soft drinks themselves… such as other lifestyle habits that go along with soft drink consumers but still… I drink diet soft drinks and wondered about those… this study was looking at sugared drinks.)

Cat Ladders Hall of Fame (Found a great site that features cat ladders from all around the world… in addition to the great cat ladders, I enjoy the scenes from other countries… If you’d like to see the breakdown of  top ten list of countries that submit cat ladders to the site then click this.)

Workplace and Career Transitions: Know When to Hold ‘Em, Know When to Fold ‘Em (Good post reminding us that corporations or companies exist to make a profit, and not to satisfy the needs of it’s employees… that does’t have to be the model, but that is the model that prevails…)

A Vest That Hugs You When You Get Social Media Love (Uh, yeah. You’re going to need that hug wearing that around in public I think. But perhaps I’m a Luddite  Certainly my vest would be looking a little on the deflated side, so perhaps I’m just jealous.)

YouLookFab Blog - Style Advice for Fashion Lovers - I am hooked on this blog, and I certainly can’t say that about any other fashion blog I’ve ever come across. I don’t have much interest in fashion… but I do have a sort of renewed interest in not looking like a slob. I suck at mixing and matching and shopping and, well, all things style related. I figure if I can just stare enough at the blog pics and read the advice,  I might just absorb something that could help me when I head out to shop. One can hope. If not, as usual, I’m heading to the food court for french fries.)

Speaking of style – also came across this Unhappy Hipsters site and have been laughing out loud ever since. Or at least smiling hard.

And to no-one’s surprise a large-scale Swedish study shows a Link Between Creativity and Mental Illness. (Bonus points to who figures out what the link truly is. I often wonder if the correlation is more because people with so-called mental health issues often tend to have difficulty conforming to the sort of work that the masses of “healthy” people do and therefore they simply end up with more time to dedicate to creative pursuits. For example, I recently was reading about Vincent van Gogh’s life… he had regular jobs, but tended not to say in them (or got fired) and then ended up with time to pursue creative work… or chop up his ear… whatever. Perhaps all of us are creative — but most people have a huge amounts of boring shit they gotta do and so the creativity dies, or else goes dormant in favour of acquiring a financial management degree or something. No offence to financial people… I’m sure they are very creative.  I just picked that example at random.)

Apparently 27 extra minutes of sleep may make kids better behaved (So, we’ve moved our kids bedtime back by 27 minutes, which was a very popular decision in our household… I told them not to push it though because I was thinking if 27 minutes was good, then perhaps 54 minutes would be even better.)

I’ll stop there.

I think I am more attractive as a witch. The green complexion is very forgiving. I used http://www.picmonkey.com/ to do the effects.

Have a great weekend.
